In 1991, amid protests against the US bombing of Iraq, Alissar Gazal, an Arab feminist, met Barbie while standing against war. Barbie, a Jewish woman, was part of Women in Black, a Palestinian solidarity group in Sydney. After becoming single and disillusioned with the world, Alissar found solace with Barbie.
