In the heart of Mosul’s Old City, Saqr Zakaria reflects on the transformation of his once war-torn hometown. After the liberation of the city from Islamic State militants in 2017, Zakaria returned to set up the Baytna Foundation, a cultural center dedicated to rebuilding the community. Walking the same streets where the extremist group declared its caliphate, Zakaria is amazed at the progress and resilience of the people.
