Author: US court sentences Haiti ex-gang leader to 35 years in prison

The Miami court has sentenced Germine “Yonyon” Joly, a former leader of the notorious Haitian gang 400 Mawozo, to 35 years in prison for his role in laundering kidnapping ransoms and illegally trafficking US firearms to Haiti, according to the Justice Department. Joly confessed to smuggling firearms and transferring funds from ransom proceeds in a plea document earlier this year. 400 Mawozo gained infamy for kidnapping five Catholic priests, two nuns, and later 17 US and Canadian missionaries, including children.
