Ten years ago, Islamic State (IS) committed atrocities in Iraq’s Sinjar province, displacing and killing thousands of Yazidis. A ceremony was held at the mass grave near the Yazidi genocide memorial to honor the victims of this genocide, including 111 elderly women. Shiren Ibrahim Ahmed, a survivor of IS enslavement, shared her harrowing story of captivity and loss. Despite the horrors she faced, she now works to support other female survivors through trauma.
