A heartwarming scene unfolded at San Francisco Airport as a crowd of over 200 people gathered to welcome Ahmed, a Palestinian teen who lost both his legs and half of his left hand in an Israeli strike in Gaza. The 15-year-old arrived in the US to receive prosthetic and rehabilitative treatment after being wounded in a bombing in Khan Younis. The crowd, including children, brought gifts, banners, and flowers to show their support.
Dr. Mohammad Subeh, who treated Ahmed in Gaza, called his survival a “miracle” given the challenging conditions. The International Committee of the Red Cross highlighted the dire healthcare situation in southern Gaza.
Diseases like Polio are spreading in Gaza due to collapsing sanitation, with UNICEF estimating that 10 children lose limbs daily. Ahmed’s journey to recovery was made possible by humanitarian organization Heal Palestine, who sponsored his travel and medical care.
Despite the challenges, Ahmed expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to have a normal life with prosthetics. His resilience and spirit are a testament to the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
