His Majesty King Abdullah II and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer emphasized the importance of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and increasing humanitarian aid to civilians during their meeting at 10 Downing Street. They discussed bilateral relations, regional developments, and the deteriorating situation in Gaza.
King Abdullah praised the strong relationship between Jordan and the UK and expressed confidence in overcoming challenges together. He also congratulated Starmer on his new position.
The King highlighted the dangers of regional conflict spillover and urged the UK to play a key role in securing a ceasefire and increasing humanitarian efforts in Gaza. He commended the UK’s decision to support UNRWA and warned against extremism in the West Bank and violations in Jerusalem.
Prime Minister Starmer reaffirmed the deep ties between the two countries and expressed optimism in further cooperation. Both leaders discussed vital issues of common concern.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and other officials. Safadi also met with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy to discuss efforts towards a lasting ceasefire and bilateral cooperation.
The discussions emphasized the importance of creating a political horizon for lasting peace in the region.
