PTI Responds to ISPR Press Conference
Shortly after the military spokesperson’s press conference regarding the events of May 9 and the alleged involvement of PTI, party spokesperson Raoof Hasan spoke out against the statements made, calling them “full of contradictions.”
In the press conference, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif stated that any dialogue with PTI could only occur if the party apologized, promised to engage in constructive politics, and abandoned anarchy. These remarks came just two days before the anniversary of the events that led to a crackdown against PTI following Imran Khan’s arrest last year.
Responding to the press conference, Hasan criticized the military’s stance, stating that he found it difficult to comprehend the reasons behind their frustrations and conflicting statements. He also pointed out the irony in the military claiming there was no threat to democracy when there was no democracy to begin with.
Hasan highlighted that PTI has been a target of numerous attacks and expressed concern over the increasing intensity of such attacks. He emphasized the importance of meaningful dialogue and transparency in addressing the issues raised by the military.
He called for an independent judicial inquiry to investigate the events of May 9 and various other incidents, challenging the military to provide concrete evidence to support their claims against PTI. Hasan also questioned the military’s assertion regarding PTI’s voter support, citing Gallup’s data on PTI-affiliated candidates’ vote share in the general elections.
In conclusion, Hasan emphasized the need for transparency and independence in any investigations related to PTI, rejecting any biases or influence from external entities. He reiterated PTI’s commitment to upholding democratic values and pursuing constructive political engagements in the future.
