Oman has made impressive progress in passport ranking, jumping seven places to 58th in the Henley Passport Index for the first half of 2024. This increase is based on official data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Previously ranked 65th in 2023, Oman now offers its citizens visa-free travel to 86 destinations, up from 82.
Among GCC countries, the UAE stands out by reaching the top ten for the first time, with visa-free access to 185 destinations. The country’s exceptional rise in the ranking is credited to its efforts to establish itself as a global business and tourism hub. Singapore has reclaimed its title as the world’s most powerful passport, providing visa-free access to 195 destinations.
The global mobility gap between top and bottom-ranked countries continues to widen, with Afghanistan holding the weakest passport, offering visa-free access to only 26 countries. Overall, the trend shows increasing travel freedom, with an average of 111 destinations accessible visa-free in 2024, compared to 58 in 2006.
