The state opposition is pushing for the government to implement measures to better protect both staff and passengers from such incidents.
Incidents like these are unfortunately not uncommon, as demonstrated by recent video footage of a brawl on a train in the Seaford line.
Sam McIntosh from the Transport Workers Union expressed concern, stating, “It’s totally unacceptable that they’re not safe at work.”
While safety screening for bus drivers is in progress, the opposition is pushing for quicker implementation to address the rising safety concerns.
Shadow Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Vincent Tarzia emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “The data is showing that we really do have a problem here in South Australia.”
The opposition is also advocating for more police presence on public transport to ensure the safety of both staff and passengers. They are calling for better enforcement of barring orders to prevent repeat offenders from causing harm.
