Aden, Yemen takes a giant leap towards a healthier future with the launch of the Sewerage Infrastructure Project. In partnership with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the Governor of Aden introduces this initiative, funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the Government of Yemen. By 2026, the project aims to benefit around 1.5 million people in Dar Saad, Sheikh Othman, and Al Mansura districts.
The primary goal of this project is to improve sanitation infrastructure, thereby reducing waterborne diseases, environmental contamination, and ensuring a cleaner environment for future generations. It targets vulnerable groups like refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities in Aden. The project includes rehabilitating and expanding the existing sewage network to enhance public health and environmental conditions in the region.
Moreover, the project focuses on capacity-building by training local technicians and new university graduates to ensure the sustainability of the sewage infrastructure. UNHCR is dedicated to collaborating with local authorities and stakeholders for the successful implementation of this crucial project, marking a significant milestone in Aden’s infrastructure and public health development.
