Exciting News: World Bank Approves Additional Funding for Kambarata-1 Hydropower Plant Project in Kyrgyzstan
The World Bank has approved an additional $13.6 million in funding for the ongoing Kambarata-1 Hydropower Plant (HPP) Project in Kyrgyzstan, supplementing the initial $5 million investment. This project aims to support the government in preparing the Kambarata-1 HPP in a sustainable manner across environmental, technical, financial, and commercial aspects.
The Kambarata-1 HPP Project is a pivotal regional initiative geared towards enhancing energy supply, water and energy resource management, and promoting clean energy in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia. It is projected to generate 5,600 gigawatt hours annually, significantly impacting Kyrgyzstan’s electricity generation and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 5 million tons yearly.
Since its approval in autumn 2023, the Technical Assistance for Kambarata-1 HPP Project has made noteworthy progress. The World Bank’s extensive program in Kyrgyzstan now comprises 25 projects, totaling over $1.2 billion in commitments to advance the modernization and development of various sectors.
