Top defence officials from Japan, US, and South Korea recently gathered in Tokyo to strengthen trilateral relations and cooperation amidst growing security threats from China and North Korea. In their meeting, the officials agreed to enhance security cooperation to promote peace on the Korean Peninsula and in the broader Indo-Pacific region.
The joint statement released after the meeting called on North Korea to halt all destabilizing activities and urged the country to abandon its nuclear program. Additionally, the officials condemned China’s aggressive actions in the South China Sea and rejected any attempts to change the status quo through force.
This meeting marked the first time that Japan hosted such high-level defense talks, signaling a renewed commitment to regional security. The trilateral discussions between Japan, US, and South Korea are set to continue next year in South Korea.
The head of the British government’s National Cyber Security Centre also highlighted cybersecurity threats from China and North Korea, emphasizing the need for vigilance in the face of evolving cyber threats. The ongoing cooperation between these countries reflects a united front against common security challenges.
