In war-torn Sudan, hunger levels are rising as aid workers struggle to access many areas, preventing much-needed assistance from reaching those in need. According to Pierre Dorbes of the ICRC, large parts of the country are off-limits due to danger and lack of permission. The ongoing conflict between the army and paramilitaries has resulted in tens of thousands dead and over ten million displaced, with nearly half the population facing acute food insecurity.
In response, volunteer groups have set up communal kitchens in some areas, providing thousands of meals daily. However, transferring funds to support these efforts is challenging, and many in need still go without food aid. In the town of Dilling, Kinda Komi and other volunteers face obstacles in reaching those cut off by the fighting, leaving half of the needy without meals.
The situation in Sudan is dire, with access restrictions hindering the delivery of essential aid. International support is crucial in addressing hunger and ensuring that all vulnerable populations receive the assistance they desperately need.
