New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters has announced further sanctions in response to Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. The latest round of sanctions targets Russians involved in the military-industrial complex and those providing military assistance to Russia. This includes individuals and entities involved in the illegal transfer of weaponry from North Korea to Russia for use in Ukraine, as well as Iranian actors supplying drones to Russia.
These sanctions aim to condemn all forms of military support to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, emphasizing the threat to Ukraine’s sovereignty. The international community’s collective efforts to impose sanctions intend to increase the cost to Russia for its illegal war of aggression.
Since the Russia Sanctions Act came into effect in March 2022, New Zealand has imposed sanctions on over 1,700 individuals and entities, with the latest sanctions targeting seven individuals and 12 entities providing military support to Russia’s aggression.
