Protest at FUTA: SSANU Demands Unpaid Salaries
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, staged a protest on Tuesday demanding the payment of salary arrears by the Federal Government. The protest, held at the main entrance of the university, saw members chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards calling for action.
Non-teaching staff at FUTA have been withholding their services in protest against the non-payment of four months’ salaries since 2022. The chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council of FUTA, Felix Adubi, expressed frustration over the government’s failure to address the issue and warned of possible disruptions to university operations.
The union leader emphasized the need for all four unions affected by the salary withholding to be paid promptly. He urged the government to fulfill its promises to avoid escalating tensions in Nigerian universities.
SSANU at FUTA remains determined to continue their protest until their demands are met, calling on the President to take immediate action to resolve the situation and restore industrial harmony.
