China and Belarus have kicked off joint military exercises near the border with NATO member Poland, just in time for the alliance’s summit in Washington. The Belarusian Ministry of Defense stated that the exercises, named Falcon Attack, will run until July 19 at a training ground in Brest, near the Polish border. The aim is to practice new tactical tasks in response to the uncertain global situation, with a focus on anti-terrorist operations.
Chinese and Belarusian troops will work on night landings, overcoming water obstacles, and operating in populated areas. Chinese soldiers arrived in Belarus on July 6, where they were warmly welcomed by local authorities. The joint training is intended to enhance coordination between the two armies.
The exercises come amid a buildup of NATO forces on the Belarusian border, raising tensions in the region. While Belarus is taking steps to prevent escalation, it warns of a harsh response to any border violations. The drills mark a significant display of military cooperation between China and Belarus in the face of growing geopolitical challenges.
