More than 20 individuals were evacuated from Riverview informal settlement in Citrusdal due to flooding caused by heavy rainfall and strong winds in the Western Cape.
Cederberg Mayor Ruben Richards stated that emergency protocols were activated, and residents were informed to be prepared. Evacuated residents were provided with shelter, food, clothing, and blankets.
Efforts are underway to evacuate residents from flood-prone areas in Citrusdal, while a rescue team has been dispatched to the Wupperthal area, cut off from main towns. No fatalities have been reported, although areas like Clanwilliam have experienced minor flooding.
The municipality is closely monitoring the situation and thanks residents for their cooperation. Additional severe weather is expected, with preparations in place for further evacuations and damage assessments.
