On Sunday, more than three million passengers passed through United States airport security, setting a new record as travel surged to unprecedented levels, according to the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA). This milestone marked the first time such a high number of passengers were screened in a single day.
With travel numbers surpassing pre-pandemic levels, the TSA has seen its busiest days in history this year, with eight of the top 10 occurring recently. Although Americans are still dealing with inflation, travel costs have decreased, making flying and staying in hotels more affordable. In fact, hotel rooms were 1.2% cheaper in May compared to the previous year.
Airlines are also anticipating a strong summer season, with many expecting solid profits. Despite challenges such as increased passenger complaints, the industry is showing signs of recovery, with Delta Air Lines projecting sales of $15.5 billion for the second quarter, a significant increase from the previous year.
As travel continues to rebound, airlines are hopeful for a successful summer season, with various carriers predicting improved financial results compared to previous quarters.
