Several minors under ten years old have been kidnapped in the Lowoi South area of Torit County, Eastern Equatoria State, with seven children (four boys and three girls) taken in less than two weeks. Additionally, more than 35 cattle were stolen but later recovered by local youth. Local authorities have pointed fingers at Murle youth from Greater Pibor Administrative Area for the repeated abductions and cattle raids, calling for government intervention.
Women leader Jokomina Celesio Filbino reported that the most recent incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon following a previous abduction on June 24. Elders in the community, including Jimmy Kilang, confirmed the ongoing search for the suspected Murle abductors. On the other hand, Oleyo Akuar Nyalus, Minister of Information and Communication in GPAA, denied knowledge of the abductions but emphasized the need for cross-border collaboration to address the issue.
The rise in child abductions has sparked fear in the area, prompting calls for immediate action and stricter laws to combat such crimes.
