Reaffirming their stand against the proposed N62,000 minimum wage by the Federal Government, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) remains resolute in demanding N250,000 for workers. NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, emphasized the importance of securing realistic wages to sustain Nigerian workers.
Despite failed negotiations with the government and the expiration of the existing minimum wage, the NLC stands firm in their commitment. Speaking at an award ceremony in Kano, Ajaero expressed concern over the economic challenges faced by workers due to the worsening inflation rate.
Former Labour chairman, Haruna Wabba, urged the government to prioritize workers’ welfare and guarantee a just minimum wage. Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, assured the improvement of workers’ salaries and the elimination of arbitrary deductions.
Amidst the ongoing struggle, the NLC remains dedicated to advocating for fair wages and dignified living conditions for Nigerian workers. The support and dedication of unions like the Medical and Health Workers Union are essential in upholding workers’ rights and interests.
