Tragedy struck on Friday night as two teenage girls, ages 17 and 18, drowned in the waters off Coney Island in New York. The New York City Police Department reported that the girls went missing around 8:10 p.m. near Stillwell Avenue in Brooklyn. An hour later, they were found on the shoreline.
The girls were rushed to Coney Island Hospital but were tragically pronounced dead. This heartbreaking incident comes just a week after two teenage boys also lost their lives in a similar drowning accident at Jacob Riis Park in Queens. The bodies of Elyjha Chandler, 16, and Christian Perkins, 17, were recovered after being swept away on June 21.
