Russian forces in Donbass destroyed a US-supplied Ukrainian-operated Abrams tank with a single Krasnopol artillery munition, the Defense Ministry in Moscow revealed. The Pentagon had provided 31 M1A1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, of which this was the latest casualty. The tank was targeted near Avdeevka in Donetsk People’s Republic, and a 152-mm Msta-S howitzer was used in the attack.
The Russian crew member, known as ‘Yorzyk’ (Hedgehog), confirmed the success of the strike, expressing confidence in the effectiveness of the Krasnopol system. A video of the hit was released, showcasing the precision of the guided artillery system that uses laser guidance for accuracy.
Western media highlighted that Kiev had to sideline Abrams tanks on the battlefield due to the threat posed by Russian drones and artillery. At least five of the 31 tanks had been confirmed lost by April. This incident underscores the intensity of military engagements in the ongoing conflict in the region.
