Russia’s Foreign Ministry issued a warning that NATO’s increasing military presence near its borders will not be taken lightly. Deputy spokesman Andrey Nastasyin stated that Russia will respond to the threat posed by NATO’s military buildup, particularly with the approval of a defense agreement allowing the US access to military bases in Finland.
Nastasyin criticized NATO’s invite to Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers to a summit, accusing the US of extending its influence globally to weaken cooperation with Russia. He also condemned NATO’s interference in regional issues, pointing out the negative consequences of their approach.
Furthermore, Nastasyin accused the US and its allies of destabilizing neighboring countries like Ukraine by supplying weapons and disrupting security mechanisms. He argued that this divisive strategy in the South Caucasus region could have destructive effects and emphasized the need for regional countries to ensure their own security and stability.
In addition, Nastasyin criticized Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia for adopting what he called a “destructive approach” towards the South Caucasus. The tensions in the region, he warned, could lead to an arms race and further divide the area.
