In a concerning development, 25 patients at a government-run hospital in Kolkata’s Metiabruz experienced complications after cataract surgeries, leading to a temporary halt in such operations. The surgeries took place last Friday and Saturday, with authorities scrambling to determine the cause of the infections.
According to an official, all instruments used in the surgeries are being examined to identify the source of the problem. The patients have been shifted to the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology for further treatment as investigations continue.
“The reason behind the infection is yet unclear. We have suspended cataract surgeries for now,” stated the hospital official.
