Ukraine’s Military Intelligence reported that a Russian metallurgical plant, the Oskol Ugarov Electrometallurgical Combine (OEMK), was severely damaged in a joint operation. Kamikaze drones targeted electrical substations in the Belgorod region, resulting in the complete de-energization of the plant.
OEMK, known for its advanced technology in metallurgy, suffered a shutdown of electric arc furnaces, freezing the metal inside. Restarting the plant will require extensive cleaning and potentially new furnaces, with German expertise possibly needed due to the plant’s origin.
OEMK is crucial to Russia’s military-industrial complex, supplying high-quality steel to various industries, including automotive and military equipment manufacturers. The US and UK sanctioned Metalloinvest Holding and OEMK in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
