Iranian musician and filmmaker Bashir Biazar, who was unlawfully arrested and detained in France, has been released and is heading back home.
The Iranian presidency’s public relations division announced this news on Wednesday.
Biazar spent close to a month in a French jail following his sudden arrest on June 4. He was accused of charges like “Iranian propaganda,” “anti-Zionism and anti-Americanism,” and posing a “threat to public order in France.”
His arrest was widely criticized as politically motivated, with many rejecting the baseless allegations made against him.
Biazar, known for his music compositions and films, had moved to France with his family three years ago. He gained recognition for his commentary on social media, particularly on Palestinian rights and Western governments’ actions.
Despite the accusations against him, investigations revealed that his posts did not incite violence or promote terrorism.
Following a social media campaign for his release, Biazar is now on his way back to his home country, leaving behind a story of unfounded charges and political agendas.
