EXCLUSIVE
A source inside Pakistan cricket told Al Jazeera that despite the proposed date, India’s participation in the 2025 event is questionable.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed March 1 as the date for the ICC Champions Trophy contest between Pakistan and India in Lahore, according to negotiations. The tournament will take place in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi from February 19 to March 9, with a reserve day for the final on March 10.
India’s participation is uncertain due to political tensions with Pakistan. Despite this, other participating countries have shown support for Pakistan hosting the event. The PCB has made significant progress in preparations for the tournament, which will be the first ICC event in Pakistan since 1996.
Although India’s government must approve their team’s travel to Pakistan, there is hope they may reconsider, as Pakistan participated in the 50-over World Cup in India in 2023. If India decides not to attend, the tournament schedule may need adjustments.
Excitement is building for the return of the ICC Champions Trophy, with teams eagerly anticipating the competition in Pakistan after its successful hosting of international matches in recent years.\
