U.S. Provides $6.5 Billion in Military Aid to Israel Amid War
The United States has recently provided $6.5 billion in military aid to Israel since the current conflict started, with half of it being delivered in May. This significant support was highlighted during Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s visit to Washington, where U.S. officials reviewed the extensive assistance provided to Israel. The aid includes direct defense support against external threats, including Iranian attacks.
Despite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s accusations of aid delays, the Biden administration reiterated its commitment to fulfilling obligations. Officials acknowledged some bureaucratic hurdles but emphasized the ongoing cooperation to address Israel’s defense needs.
Gallant emphasized the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship for security, highlighting the need for diplomatic and logistical support during challenging times. Discussions also revolved around efforts to secure a Gaza cease-fire and the return of Israeli hostages.
