OAS unanimously condemns military revolt in Bolivia
The Organization of American States’ General Assembly unanimously condemned the recent attempted coup d’état in Bolivia, labeling it a threat to the constitutional regime. The resolution, proposed by Chile and supported by other countries, denounces any destabilization of democratic institutions in Bolivia and expresses solidarity with its people and government in defense of democracy and the rule of law.
Bolivia’s delegate, Héctor Arce, thanked the international community for their immediate response to the crisis and emphasized the importance of protecting representative democracy from violent interruptions. The General Assembly invoked the Inter-American Democratic Charter, emphasizing the subordination of state institutions to civilian authority and the rule of law.
