During a meeting in Beijing, President Xi Jinping emphasized the need for cooperation between China and Vietnam in the South China Sea while addressing their maritime disputes. Both sides were urged to accelerate joint development, maintain regional peace, and stability.
Xi’s remarks came during Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit, following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official trip to Hanoi. The leaders reiterated their commitment to building a strong partnership and advancing economic cooperation, including participation in the Belt and Road Initiative.
Chinh affirmed Vietnam’s dedication to managing differences with China and enhancing multilateral collaboration. Despite territorial disputes in the South China Sea, the countries aim to strengthen economic ties and foster a shared destiny.
China is Vietnam’s top trading partner and a significant investor, attracting companies relocating from China amid trade tensions. While Hanoi has bolstered ties with Western allies, it seeks strategic partnerships to navigate complex geopolitical dynamics.
Although challenges exist, both nations strive to address differences diplomatically while pursuing mutual benefits and regional stability.
