KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi refuted claims of large-scale deaths in the city due to an intense heatwave, stating that 10 individuals lost their lives in a two-day period in the Karachi division. Despite reports circulating about widespread casualties, the commissioner emphasized that data collected from various sources only confirmed the demise of 10 individuals due to the humid conditions.
Naqvi cited the information gathered from hospitals, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and mortuaries to validate the reported figures. He clarified that while around 1700 patients experienced heat stroke and received treatment across all hospitals in Karachi, the exaggerated death toll in the city remained unverified by any reliable source.
The commissioner assured that the city administration is responding to the heatwave situation promptly and will address concerns such as power outages with the K-Electric officials. Naqvi also urged citizens to refrain from spreading unconfirmed information and assured that an investigation was underway to determine the causes behind the recent ‘mysterious deaths’ in Karachi.
