Armenia has the potential to become a crucial transit country connecting India with Europe and Russia, according to Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister of India. During a visit by journalists from Eurasian countries in New Delhi, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of developing new trade and transit routes in the upcoming years.
Jaishankar mentioned existing corridors like the International North-South Transport Corridor and Middle East Corridor but emphasized the need for new connections due to evolving production, consumption, and resource patterns. He sees Armenia as a key link between Europe and India, offering significant possibilities for cooperation.
Additionally, T. K. Ramachandran, the Secretary of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways of India, emphasized the importance of the International North-South Transport Corridor as an alternative route to various regions, including Russia. He explained the digital connectivity and infrastructure developments that are in progress to enhance the corridor’s efficiency.
The discussions reflect the growing cooperation and potential for enhanced bilateral relations between India and Armenia, paving the way for increased trade and connectivity opportunities in the region.
