The recent discussions between the foreign ministers of Iran and the Taliban have sparked interest in their coordinated efforts against the Israeli Occupation. The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) reported that Iranian Interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani and Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi are seeking joint action in response to Israel.
The dialogue focused on rallying member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to increase pressure on Israel. Sources suggest that the Taliban is prepared to deploy troops to combat Israel, aligning with Iran’s anti-Israel stance. This collaboration has strengthened during the recent aggression on Gaza.
In April, the Taliban publicly supported Iran’s military actions against Israel, framing it as a legitimate defense. Despite past disputes, Iran’s longstanding support for the Taliban is rooted in their shared opposition to the US presence in Afghanistan.
