Drug trafficking is a lucrative business involving suppliers, buyers, intermediaries, and investors. Recently, the Spanish National Police dismantled a complex criminal network involved in smuggling 100 kilos of cocaine from Ecuador to Spain. Operation Botnia led to the arrest of 12 individuals, including the alleged leader, Bulent Aslanoglu, known as “El Padrino.” This operation dealt a severe blow to an international criminal organization according to the Spanish Ministry of the Interior.
The investigation began in early 2023 and uncovered meetings between various criminal groups in Madrid and Málaga. The criminals were planning to smuggle large quantities of cocaine from Colombia with the help of an Albanian mafia group. The Albanians sought financial backing for the operation. The operation culminated in the arrest of key individuals and the seizure of $424,000 in crypto-assets, dismantling the group’s logistical base in Spain.
