A recent government white paper on Japan’s aging society reveals a concerning trend: more elderly individuals, accounting for nearly 30% of the population, are experiencing increased feelings of loneliness compared to previous years.
This revelation comes shortly after Japan reached a significant demographic milestone, with individuals aged 80 and over now representing over 10% of the population.
The white paper, based on a 2023 survey of 2,677 individuals aged 65 and above, focused on assessing the number of friends within this demographic group.
