French Prime Minister Warns of Potential Foreign Policy Changes if National Rally Wins Elections
Gabriel Attal, the French Prime Minister, has raised concerns about the right-wing National Rally potentially altering the country’s foreign policy stance if they emerge victorious in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Attal highlighted the possibility of significant modifications to both domestic and international positions if the National Rally, led by Jordan Bardella, takes power after President Emmanuel Macron’s party suffered a defeat in the European Parliament elections.
Attal’s apprehensions include the risk of a potential “Frexit” and a decrease in assistance to Ukraine, which could lead to a greater influence from Russia. The National Rally’s divergent views on crucial issues such as Russia, Ukraine, European defense, and climate change compared to Macron’s presidency until 2027 could weaken Europe’s stance on these matters.
Despite these worries, Bardella has assured continued support for Ukraine in terms of equipment and ammunition, while Moscow opposes Western military aid to Kiev, warning against NATO troop involvement in the conflict. As France heads to the polls on June 30, the outcome could shape the nation’s future foreign relations significantly.
