NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced on Thursday that the defense alliance will be implementing tougher measures against Russian spies in response to Moscow’s campaign of hostile activities, including sabotage and cyber attacks. Stoltenberg outlined various actions that NATO members will take to counter Russia’s aggressive behavior, such as increasing awareness, sharing intelligence, protecting critical infrastructure, and tightening restrictions on Russian intelligence personnel.
The concern over Russian agents’ activities has also extended to the European Union, with eight foreign ministers calling for restrictions on the movement of Russian diplomats within EU countries. They emphasized the need to limit the operating space for Russian agents by confining their movements to the territory of the state where they are accredited.
This coordinated response from NATO and the EU signals a united front against Russian espionage and interference, highlighting a commitment to safeguarding national security in the face of increasing threats.
