The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has recently sounded the alarm regarding alleged intimidation of its members by Governor Godwin Obaseki, along with threats of arrest by the Commissioner of Police in the state. In a petition addressed to key authorities, the party raised concerns about the use of security apparatus to harass members and weaken opposition parties in the lead-up to the upcoming governorship election on September 21.
The petition, filed by Edo APC chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, highlighted the governor’s alleged efforts to stifle dissent and create a climate of fear. Tenebe called for intervention to address the unjust harassment and ensure a fair electoral process. The petition described Governor Obaseki’s actions as a deliberate attempt to silence opposition voices and manipulate the political landscape.
As tensions rise ahead of the election, the Edo APC remains vigilant and seeks to uphold democratic principles in the face of adversity. The party urges authorities to investigate the matter promptly and uphold the rule of law for a transparent electoral process.
