SIPTU members at the National Advocacy Service (NAS) have commenced strike action today over a dispute concerning pay and conditions. The union, representing the majority of NAS staff, expressed disappointment in the organization’s failure to implement a Labour Court recommendation regarding staff remuneration.
John King, Deputy General Secretary of SIPTU, outlined that strike action, coupled with picketing, will persist until a satisfactory resolution is reached. Brendan Carr, SIPTU Community Sector Organiser, emphasized the staff’s dedication to clients but raised concerns about NAS’s future sustainability.
NAS acknowledged potential disruptions to services and assured efforts to minimize impact while expressing solidarity with employees’ wage demands. According to NAS, staff salaries have remained stagnant since 2010, as they are determined by the Citizens Information Board, funded by the Department of Social Protection.
The organization is actively negotiating with funders to adhere to Labour Court recommendations for equitable wages and service sustainability.
