US president’s son convicted by jury for lying about his use of illegal drugs when he bought a gun.
United States President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, has been found guilty by a federal court jury in Wilmington, Delaware, for lying about his drug use to illegally purchase a gun. This verdict marks him as the first child of a sitting US president to be convicted of a crime.
After the jury’s decision, President Joe Biden expressed his acceptance of the outcome and stated his support for Hunter as he considers an appeal. Hunter Biden has been sober since 2019, a fact the President acknowledged with pride.
Following the verdict, Hunter Biden expressed disappointment but gratitude for the support he has received. His legal team plans to continue pursuing all available legal options.
Despite being found guilty on three counts, sentencing guidelines for the gun charges typically range from 15 to 21 months. However, defendants in similar cases often receive shorter sentences if they comply with pretrial release conditions.
Additional charges in California
Aside from this case, Hunter Biden is also facing multiple tax-related charges in California. Special Counsel David Weiss, appointed by former President Trump, is overseeing these legal proceedings.
Weiss emphasized that everyone must abide by the law, regardless of their status. The upcoming trial in Los Angeles will focus on allegations of tax offenses totaling $1.4 million from 2016 to 2019.
