In H.G. Wells’s novel, “The Country of the Blind,” a mountaineer named Nunez finds himself in a hidden valley inhabited by blind villagers. He believes he can dominate them with his sight, but they see his talk of vision as delusional.
The European Parliament mirrors this valley, isolated by Hubris and Hypocrisy. MEPs Daly and Wallace act as the Nunezes, calling out the commission’s injustices and misleadings. Daly, in particular, criticizes Ursula von der Leyen for supporting the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
Wallace emphasizes the need for EU support for Ukraine, highlighting the wasteful proxy war and corporate exploitation. Despite facing censorship, celebrities like Susan Sarandon support Daly and Wallace for their voices of peace and justice.
As Ireland acknowledges their courage, the hope remains that more representatives across Europe will bring clarity to the blind valley. Daly’s speeches can be found here, and Wallace’s here.
