Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh: An MP-MLA court in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has postponed the hearing in a 2018 defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his alleged objectionable remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Gandhi’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, cited the death of a lawyer as the reason for the postponement, with the new hearing date set for June 18.
In December, a warrant was issued against Gandhi in the defamation case filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra. However, Gandhi appeared in court in February during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Amethi, was granted bail, and halted the yatra.
The complaint against Gandhi was filed in August 2018 for comments made during a press conference in Bengaluru regarding Shah’s involvement in a murder case. Shah had been discharged in a 2005 fake encounter case years prior. The case continues to unfold as Gandhi faces legal proceedings.
