Disgruntled ANC members are planning a protest against the party’s decision to engage in coalition discussions with the DA. The picket is set to take place in Johannesburg on Thursday, led by staunch ANC member Esethu Hasane who believes that partnering with the DA would betray the trust of ANC supporters who voted in good faith.
Sources close to President Cyril Ramaphosa argue that a coalition with the DA is the best option for the country’s stability, despite the opposition from members like Hasane. The ANC’s national executive committee is scheduled to meet to discuss the issue at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.
Hasane started the #NotWithDA campaign on social media, expressing his rejection of a coalition with the DA. He believes that such a partnership would embolden racist elements and undermine the progress made in the country.
While there is growing discontent within some ANC structures, with comparisons made between the DA and the old National Party, not everyone within the ANC agrees with forming a coalition with the DA.
The decision on coalition partners is yet to be finalized, but the ongoing discussions have sparked criticism and dissent within the ANC ranks. The protest aims to voice the concerns of those opposed to a DA coalition and emphasize the need to consider the implications of such a decision.
