An anti-terrorism court in Azad Jammu and Kashmir has rejected the bail plea of poet Ahmed Farhad Shah, who was detained for sharing “provocative material” during protests. Despite arguments from his counsel, the court held that Shah’s actions were connected to the offenses in the FIR, making him ineligible for bail.
Shah had gone missing and later re-surfaced near the AJK border, leading to his arrest under multiple sections of the law. The prosecution argued that he incited violence and hatred against law enforcement agencies through his social media posts during the protests.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the charges against Shah, including violations under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Azad Penal Code. Due to the nature of the offenses and the lack of recovered devices linked to the case, the court denied Shah’s bail application.
Each criminal case has its unique conditions, and in this instance, Shah’s bail plea does not apply. The rejection highlights the gravity of the charges he faces.
