The Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned China’s ambassador to Tehran to protest Beijing’s support for “baseless claims” about three Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf.
The Chinese envoy was notified by Mohammad Alibak of the protest regarding the support for the baseless claims about the islands in the China-UAE joint meeting’s final statement.
Abu Musa, the Greater and Lesser Tunbs have historically been part of Iran, despite the repeated claims by the United Arab Emirates. Iran’s sovereignty over these islands was restored in 1971 after British forces left the region.
