President Emmanuel Macron will host Joe Biden for the US leader’s first state visit to France after both leaders attend D-Day commemorations on June 6. Biden’s visit on June 8 for talks with Macron in Paris will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields.
Biden will participate in ceremonies to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy and honour the American veterans who contributed to the liberation of France. Discussions between the two leaders will cover global challenges, climate-related issues, and support for Ukraine.
The state visit will underscore the enduring relationship between the United States and France, founded on shared democratic values and strategic cooperation. Macron and Biden will also discuss economic, space, and nuclear cooperation during the visit.
Major commemorations in Normandy will draw 25 heads of state and government to honor the troops who landed on June 6, 1944. The presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected among the attendees.
