Western Equatoria State Police Commissioner Maj Gen Phillip Madut Tong has called to the Yambio community to work with the law enforcement to address a rise in shootings, thefts, and robberies by unidentified gunmen.
Speaking to the media recently, Tong emphasized the importance of public collaboration in enhancing security. He urged residents to report suspicious activities.
“Everyone in Yambio has a responsibility to report criminal activities to help maintain safety in the county,” he said.
Tong noted that most crimes occurred at night, when police faced logistical challenges due to limited resources.
The Commissioner highlighted key obstacles, including a shortage of fuel and vehicles, which forced officers to conduct night patrols on foot.
“These criminals exploit our resource limitations,” he said, “but I appeal to the public to stand with us in protecting our community.”
Victims of the recent crimes shared their experiences with Radio Tamazuj. One described how four armed men raided his home, stealing valuables, including mobile phones and a motorcycle, before locking his family indoors.
Bobo Henry recounted how robbers broke into his shop, stole SSP4 million, and locked him and others inside, explaining that the assailants appeared focused only on cash.
Tong’s appeal underscores the need for a united effort to enhance safety and restore peace in Yambio.
