According to a report from the New York Times, President-elect Donald Trump is rushing quickly to pick future members of his cabinet based on how they look during any TV appearances they may have had, with input from some his closest advisers and little attention paid to vetting the potential candidates.
That, in turn, has led to some unforced errors such as picking a Fox News host to become secretary of defense without being aware he was accused of sexual assault in California while he attended a GOP women’s conference.
The report notes, that Trump seems more confident in making his staffing choices after the turbulent selection process following his 2016 win.

As the Times’ Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan are reporting, Trump is also on the phone constantly as he makes his selections, and that includes speaking with unknown individuals overseas.
“Even with the differences since 2016, all signs so far indicate that the 78-year-old president-elect is sticking to some of his old habits,” the report states. “It sometimes seems to his staff as if half the world now has Mr. Trump’s cellphone number. Even since becoming the president-elect, he still seems willing to take every call — even calls from unknown foreign numbers.”
The report added, “When he’s not running through personnel, he has been spotted in the tearoom beneath the gold-canopied roof, or out on the Mar-a-Lago patio, picking out music on his iPad and blasting Pavarotti.”
