He said since the incident happened, the suspect, Mayol Tong Mayol, was being held by the SPLA-IO forces who control the area and was handed to the police three days ago before being transferred to Wau Town for investigations.
“The issue happened in relation to some young girls on the night of 5 November. The deceased was looking for a place where four girls were sleeping and when he was stopped, he ran and this is when he was speared to death,” he explained. “The suspect was still under SPLA-IO custody and after they completed their investigation, they brought the killer to us in Mapel. This person spent three days with us and was taken to Wau yesterday (Monday).”
According to Lt. Manut, the family of the deceased is yet to formally open a police case because they demanded that the suspect first be transferred to Wau Town. He said the situation on the ground is calm after the incident and urged the community not to take the law into their own hands.
