Intrigue and Influence: The Deep Engagement of Myung Taek-gyun in Changwon National Industrial Complex
Myung Taek-gyun, a central figure in the scandal of Kim Geon-hee’s interference in nominating candidates, has been found to have deeply involved himself in influencing the selection process of Changwon National Advanced Industrial Complex, announced by President Yoon Suk-yeol in March 2023. Months before the announcement, Myung called upon high-ranking officials in Changwon in October 2022 to review classified documents related to the industrial complex. The complex, valued at 1.4 trillion won, is set to revolutionize the region.
Myung’s engagement exposed sensitive documents, triggering investigations that revealed deals with accomplices, such as Kang Hye-kyung. Myung and Kang eyed the site for real estate development, shifting resources from their firm, Future Korea Research Institute. The scandal, intertwined with political connections, unfolded as they pursued business ventures. Their bond underscores suspicions around the project and the involvement of political figures, as revealed through the acquisition of properties and empty office spaces at the site.
Despite their denials, the investigation continues, unraveling ties that raise questions about the true intentions behind the Changwon development project.
